Issue & Creative Workshops

Expertly facilitated management workshops - for problem-solving, innovation, decision-making and much more!

Sometimes, to decide how to deal with an important management issue, problem, opportunity or challenge, it’s best to set aside some dedicated time to think through and look at the topic in more detail.   Often a well-structured group meeting or facilitated ‘workshop’ can be most effective. That’s where Owen Morris can help.
What strategic or operational issues do you need to look at more?    It could be anything from reviewing the implications of a competitor’s new product launch or thinking of innovative ways to boost growth to discussing how to improve an operational or HR problem. A workshop could help you to analyse the issue, define the business need more clearly, develop new ideas, recognise new opportunities, solve a problem, make a decision, or work out a plan.  Workshops can also be useful, of course, to help improve team working and relationships.
Group workshops offer lots of advantages, particularly compared to tackling an issue single-handed: they can look at issues more roundly and deeply, they come up with more ideas, they encourage more creative thinking, and typically come up with better quality, better-informed conclusions or decisions.   Workshops can also come up with ideas or solutions faster and more easily. And they can be fun and motivational for the participants.
Tailored, facilitated workshops.  Applied expertise.
A workshop can be quick - just one or two hours – but typically a half a day at least is best to cover an issue in reasonable depth. But, to be effective, any workshop needs careful planning. Key factors to get right in advance include pinpointing the objectives and topics to be addressed, deciding who is to attend, preparing suitable stimulus/reference material, and structuring an appropriate agenda.
For the meeting itself, as well as skilful facilitation, an appropriate mix of supportive process tools and techniques is key. For example, there is wide choice of models and linear techniques which can help with analysing and understanding a situation.  Likewise, there is a wide and varied tool box to help with areas like creative thinking, decision-making and action-planning.  A mix of techniques is usually best.
As expert facilitators, we can advise and assist you in designing the best approach to use and then delivering a powerful workshop on the day. What’s more, of course, we’ll bring an outside-in, fresh and independent perspective – so useful for any thinking process.
Expert associate partners to help address specific issues
To add extra value to our facilitation, where useful, we can involve one of our specialist associates to assist.   It could simply be to offer a neutral perspective in advance of the workshop on issues to be covered but equally it can be very helpful for him/her to join the workshop itself and so deepen the expertise on-hand to guide choices and decisions.
Our panel of specialist partners - who are all experts in their own fields and whom we know extremely well – includes the following, key disciplines:   corporate governance/legal;  board/executive team performance;  finance and accounting;  HR management/organisational development;  market/business research;  branding/design; marketing and PR/communications;  IT/digital/social media,  and sales/customer management.
An ideal approach we find sometimes is to hold the ‘issue workshop’ as an extra/special item on the agenda of a scheduled Board or executive meeting – as many of the individuals required will already be there .  Or, alternatively, a workshop can also be held as an extended part of an executive ‘away-day’
Expert facilitation + specialist expertise add up to a powerful combination.
